Jesus chose to love us way before we chose to love him.
The truth is Jesus (The eternal Son of God) loved us way before we even knew who He was. He loved us from the foundation of the world. Yes, He loved us before the world began (Ephesians 1:4).
I’ve heard some people say good thing they found Jesus. That may sound nice and spiritual, but they are very wrong. We didn’t find Jesus he found us. To prove this, look no further than when Jesus picked his own disciples. He chose them not the other way around. In fact, Jesus himself said you didn’t choose me I chose you (John 15:16, 19).
You can’t find Jesus, and this is because He was never lost. The bible says we are lost not Jesus. For proof of this just read the entire chapter of (Luke 15) (Ephesians 2:1-2).
The truth is you were lost, and Jesus found you (Luke 19:9-11). God throughout your life is and has been constantly trying to get your attention through Jesus and his gospel. If you have come to Christ for salvation it is because The Holy Spirit drew you to Christ (John 6:44) (2 Thessalonians 2:13-14) (Matthew 16:13-17), He himself has opened your eyes, mind, and heart to the gospel and you responded to the love of Jesus demonstrated for you at the cross (Luke 24:30-32, 45) (Acts 9:1-18) (Acts 16:14-15) (Ephesians 1:18).
The bible says while we were, yet sinners Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). This means while we were sinning and rebelling against God Christ died for us. While we were doing our own thing not even looking for Jesus He still went to the cross and died for us (Isaiah 53:1-12). He didn’t wait for us to get it right or wait for us to get our act together before He went to the cross, and this is because we can’t get it right. This is the whole reason why Jesus came to save us. We cannot save ourselves from our own sinful condition no matter how hard we try. We need his divine rescue from our sin’s eternal penalty, or we will surely be justly condemned for our sins.
You need to understand that Jesus dying on the cross for us was not dependent on whether we would choose to love him.
Jesus would have died on that cross if only one person in the world would have believed in him. How do I know this? I know this because Jesus our Good and Great Shephard has already revealed to us that he would leave the 99 to go after the one lost sheep (Luke 15:1-7). Each individual person is infinitely significant and valuable to God. Every single person is precious to Him. For he created them all and loves us all.
Jesus died on the cross for us sinners voluntarily. This means this decision of His was chosen by Him. Meaning He Himself wanted to do this to demonstrate His love to this sinful world. This gospel is about the innocent sinless Son of God dying on the cross for the guilty sinner (Mark 10:45) (John 10:11-18) (John 11:50) (John 15:13) (Romans 5:6) (Galatians 2:20) (Galatians 3:13) (1 Timothy 2:6) (Titus 2:14) (Hebrews 2:9) (1 Peter 2:21-24) (Hebrews 9:28) (2 Corinthians 5:14-21) (1 John 3:16) (1 Peter 3:18).
I can’t love God before I come to Christ and this is because I don’t yet truly know him personally. I am born separated from him. And why am I separated from God at birth? Because of my sins. And the Bible is clear that I cannot reconcile myself to God nor make myself right with him in it of myself. Now Jesus must choose me and save me from the eternal penalty of my sins, or I will surely perish forever my wicked deeds.
I pray to God that you hear and understand what I’m about to reveal by God’s Spirit for this is a huge revelation. And it is this “Jesus just didn’t choose me He chose me. This revelation is so amazing. Let me explain further…
Meaning He Chose Me Over my shame, He Chose Me Over my sin and guilt, He Picked Me He Loved Me Over my wicked sins and condemnation. What he chose was to love me unconditionally. What he chose was for me to rise from the dead and Live! Yes, Live in His Jesus’ Name. This means even though I am a sinner who is hopelessly lost without him, He still chose to love me and show me grace despite my sinfulness. He Chose Me Over My Sin. Now don’t misunderstand me now God never approves of sin and he never winks at our sins. However, He didn’t let our sin intimidate or scare him away from loving us (Luke 5:1-11). Wow! This is incredible. What a loving Savior, what a loving God we have in the person of Christ Jesus. Yes, The Love of Jesus for you dear reader is profound indeed. And this is God’s desire, and this desire is not just for a special select few. This is God’s desire for all men. God’s desire for all men is that none should perish but rather that all men (all men) come unto him in repentance (2 Peter 3:9).
Remember God knew that we would sin, and God knew that we would fall before He created us. And yet he went ahead and created us anyway. Think about that for a moment. God created all human beings to have an eternal relationship with them. No one is insignificant to God and this is because all of us are created in his image and all of us are created in his likeness (Genesis 1:26-27). And God does not want to see his image and his likeness in hell. Yes, it is God’s will that none should perish. He who has an ear let him hear what The Spirit of God is saying unto His Church.
Notice how Jesus was on the cross in the middle between two thieves. This is an amazing picture of the grace of God for us. I believe this is just another way God is showing us that He makes his grace available to all people.
Two thieves were on either side of Jesus. Jesus has one thief to his right and one thief to his left. One thief was humbled the other wasn’t, one thief was remorseful for his sin the other wasn’t, one thief recognized his sinfulness and knew he needed The Savior Jesus, the other refused to acknowledge his own sinfulness. One thief cried out and believed in Jesus the other mocked him and refused to believe in him. The offer of Jesus’ grace was freely made available to both men (Luke 23:32-43).
I heard a man of God say this statement and I never forgot it and it is this;
“God is loving, and we are free. We don’t initiate or attain our own salvation, if he didn’t seek us first or love us first, we wouldn’t be loving him. Our love is just a response to his love.”
Amen. I couldn’t agree with him more.
1 John 4:9-10 says
God showed how much he loved us by sending his only begotten Son (Jesus) into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son (Jesus) as a sacrifice to take away our sins.
